Creating a CNAME record for any one of the domains or subdomains that you have in a hosting account will allow you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all of its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain it's being directed to. In this light, you can't create a CNAME record to forward your domain to a third-party company and maintain a working email service with the first hosting company. Also, it is very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it's generally confused with the A record of the domain address being redirected. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain that you own through one company to the servers of some other provider if you have set up an Internet site with the latter. This way, the site will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which is CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created a site via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks in your CP.
